Welcome Back to the NL East, Javier Vazquez
Earlier this evening Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported that pitcher Javier Vazquez has been traded to the Braves for minor league infielder Brent Lillibridge among others.
Vazquez probably hopes a return to the NL East can rejuvenate a career that has hit a little bit of a lull since he was traded to the Yankees in 2004. Let’s face it if nothing else the guy will eat up innings for Atlanta. The 31 year old righty has over 200 IP in 8 of his 11 big league seasons including 208 last year for the White Sox.
Earlier in the offseason the Braves sole focus seemed to be on trading for Jake Peavy, but when they found out the Pads actually wanted players in return that you know could run, hit, and pitch at the major league level the Braves became less interested. Supposedly the Braves are among the leaders for AJ Burnett’s services and I hope they get him. Wouldn’t it be great if their two big free agent pitching acquisitions were an erratic Javy Vazquez and an injury prone high priced guy like Burnett? Now that I said that you know they are going to step up and give San Diego what they want for Peavy, you just know it.
