This team does not need distractions as they head towards the playoffs. Unfortunately Laveranues Coles does not understand that. Take a look at what he told a group of Bay Area reporters during a conference call yesterday,
“We’re in a quarterback-driven offense where he pretty much has control of everything, where before the offense was pretty much driven through me. … I just kind of become a role player instead of a guy that teams had to prepare for.”
There’s more:
“This is his offense. When we do throw the ball, there’s really no level of importance, where at one point it used to be where I was the guy … in position to get the ball most of the time.”
It gets better:
“I catch balls from the Jugs machine. The ball probably comes out harder from there than it does from anywhere else.”
And, in signing off:
“Of course he’s the big name, he’s the Hall of Famer, he’s going to get the majority of the credit but most of the guys who deserve the credit don’t really get it.”

The Jets confirmed that Shaun Ellis will play this week vs the 49ers. Also, here is the statement Ellis made through the team regarding his arrest,
“I apologize to my family, the fans and the organization,” Ellis said in a statement released through the team. “As a captain, I set a poor example for my teammates as well as all NFL players. Although this is a pending legal matter, I understand that I have to be responsible for my actions.”
Rich Cimini of the Daily News also cited an NFL source that pointed out that any suspension from this incident won’t likely happen until next season. That is good news for the Jets who could ill afford to lose their sack leader especially at a time in the season when the pass rush is struggling.

Albert Koloff of the Daily Record looks like he has a nice little scoop on his hands. He is reporting that Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis was charged with marijuana possession and driving without insurance. Here are some details from Koloff’s article:
A Hanover Township police officer made the stop Saturday at 8:37 a.m. after Ellis allegedly pulled up from behind a marked police car at high speed on Route 287 South, briefly slowed down, then passed the police car and exited onto Route 24.
Capt. Shawn Waldron of the Hanover Police Department identified the driver — listed in the press release as Mashaunda Ellis of Williamston, S.C. — as a football player with the New York Jets, who practice in Florham Park.
Waldron issued a press release saying Ellis was “uncooperative” and refused to give Sgt. Anthony Vitanza, who made the stop, all of the paperwork for which he had been asked.
