Is Jonathan Sanchez Headed to the Marlins?

Published by Mike at 11:36 am under Hot Stove, Mets, NL East Foes

According to SI’s Jon Heyman the Marlins are in talks with the Giants about a deal that would send LHP Jonathan Sanchez to Florida in exchange the Giants would get 3B Jorge Cantu.

While I do not like the idea of another talented pitcher coming to the NL East, this is a good move for both the Marlins and Giants.  The Marlins clearly have a plan this offseason to unload some power bats in exchange for pitching as evident by this potential deal as well as the deal that sent Mike Jacobs to the Royals for reliever Leo Nunez.  Can’t wait to see what the Mets offseason plan might be because right now I do not think I am alone when I say I am not confident they have a defined one.

Also of note, even though it does not affect the Mets in any way, is how aggressive the Giants have been in free agency.  They have already acquired releivers Jeremy Affeldt and Bobby Howry and are expected to sign SS Edgar Renteria.  Must be nice…
