Postgame Knee-Jerk Reactions: 49ers 24 Jets 14

Published by Mike under Jets

As I watch the Jets games each week I scribble down notes.  On a day like today those notes are written sloppy and in some spots the papers are torn.  Here is the translation of  some of the notes I took today while watching the debacle at Candlestick.

  • The Jets pass rush again was nonexistent.  Shaun Hill - who consistently took 13 step drops the entire game - had all day to throw and subsequently looked like Dan Marino.  If the Jets rushed more than 4 players a handful of times today I would be shocked.  The defensive coaches came into this game with a plan that was proved to be flawed on many levels in the first half, why didn’t they make any in-game adjustments to rectify the problems they were having putting pressure on Hill?  After Gore went down they should have known the Niners would resort to airing the ball out.  I am going to have nightmares of Issac Bruce, Bryant Johnson and the tight ends of the 49ers running those extremely long to develop crossing patterns while the three Jets pass rushers are being double teamed.

What is Laveranues Coles’ Deal?

Published by Mike under Jets, Jets Behaving Badly

This team does not need distractions as they head towards the playoffs.  Unfortunately Laveranues Coles does not understand that.  Take a look at what he told a group of Bay Area reporters during a conference call yesterday,

“We’re in a quarterback-driven offense where he pretty much has control of everything, where before the offense was pretty much driven through me. … I just kind of become a role player instead of a guy that teams had to prepare for.”

There’s more:

“This is his offense. When we do throw the ball, there’s really no level of importance, where at one point it used to be where I was the guy … in position to get the ball most of the time.”

It gets better:

“I catch balls from the Jugs machine. The ball probably comes out harder from there than it does from anywhere else.”

And, in signing off:

“Of course he’s the big name, he’s the Hall of Famer, he’s going to get the majority of the credit but most of the guys who deserve the credit don’t really get it.”
